Summer Reading Program

Join us this summer at the Pittsburg Camp-County Public Library for all the fun and exciting events we have throughout our Summer Reading Challenge. All ages are encouraged to participate and prizes will be awarded upon completion of the challenge. Pre-K through the 4th grade will be asked to read 20 books on their reading level. 5th through 12 grade are asked to read 12 chapter books on their reading level. Everyone 18 years of age or older are asked to read 8 books through the duration of the challenge. ALL reading logs must be returned no later than 5PM on July 14, 2023.

Each program features a wide variety of live critters, chosen for their interesting characteristics and the ability to fascinate and educate. Our approach is to present interesting and fun information, while at the same time challenging and involving the audience with the program. It has been our experience that an interest in science (in a broader sense) often results from learning about and being stimulated by some fascinating critters.

Mount Vernon Music Association is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to providing outstanding performances of live music to communities primarily in northeast Texas. Comics being such a vast art form, we are able to bounce around while still keeping the engagement of the participants. Comics are unique in their use of both visual images and words., engaging both hemispheres of the brain and proven to enhance learning. We include guitar playing, juggling, and even a unicycle to encourage and stimulate drawings and characters, which we use to generate a comic in real time.
